This Michelin-recommended brunch spot in Miami is closing — but not forever

A Michelin Guide-recommended restaurant is closing in Miami — but only temporarily.

Rosie’s, the Little River spot that has been named a Bib Gourmand for the past two years, announced on Instagram that it will soon be shutting down its operations at 162 NW 73rd St.

Famous for its Southern cuisine and led by chef Akino West, Rosie’s is closing to prepare to move to its final location in the neighborhood.

On Instagram, Rosie’s assured customers that “this isn’t goodbye, this is a see you later.”

“Our goal has always been to push ourselves to achieve the restaurant’s full potential. The mission is to provide the highest quality hospitality, service, and food, executed with love and intention,” the restaurant account said. “With that, Rosie’s will be temporarily closing as we prepare for our final location. Thank you to all of the amazing people that have become part of the Rosie’s family over the years. We love you.”

The last day of service will be May 12, Mother’s Day, a fitting time for the brunch-friendly restaurant, known for its deviled eggs with chicharrones, biscuits, banana pancakes with vanilla custard, chicken and waffles and fried fish and grits.

West and his wife Jamila started Rosie’s in 2020 out of their Copper Door Bed & Breakfast in Overtown, and it quickly became a pandemic favorite. When the Copper Door closed, they brought the concept to the 7th Café in Allapattah on the weekend. Rosie’s then moved to its current outdoor spot, a Little River lot behind the restaurant’s future home.

When Rosie’s was first named a Bib Gourmand in 2023 — the designation means a restaurant serves good food at approachable prices — West said the praise motivated his team.

“We keep pushing ourselves every day to get better and be consistent,” he told the Miami Herald. “Now we have the accolades to help us keep driving. And what my team has done — I can’t do this by myself. They’ve been so supportive of what we’ve been able to create.”
