11 injured, including child and pregnant woman, in Broward multi-car crash, officials say
A Saturday morning multi-car crash near Fort Lauderdale involving a sheriff’s deputy left 11 people injured — including a pregnant woman and child, investigators say.
Around 10:45 a.m., 911 dispatchers were alerted to a multi-vehicle crash near the 2700 block of West Sunrise Boulevard, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael B. Kane said.
Firefighters and paramedics from four separate fire departments rushed to the scene: Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue, Lauderhill Fire Rescue and Plantation Fire Rescue.
At the scene, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies learned that the accident involved four vehicles, the agency said. The cause of the crash is still being investigated.
A witness told the South Florida Sun Sentinel that two BSO vehicles were heading to the intersection “speeding toward us.” Deborah Rolle said one of the deputies, who was driving a Chevy Tahoe SUV, hit a black SUV before crossing the median and hitting the grey Hyundai Elantra in which she was a passenger.
The 11 injured — including the deputy — were taken to Broward Health Medical Center, BSO said. All had non-life-threatening injuries.
