Miami Gardens shooting that injured five began as a high school fight, police say
Five people — including two teens — were injured during a shooting Monday that stemmed from a fight at a Miami Gardens high school, according to officials.
The gunfire broke out shortly after 4 p.m. in the 1400 block of Northwest 197th Street, a few blocks from Norland Senior High, Miami Gardens police said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, a group of teens got into an altercation at Norland, 1193 NW 193rd St., according to police. A video obtained by Miami Herald partner CBS News Miami shows people punching each other on school grounds.
After school, one of the teen’s parents went to the home of another high schooler involved in the fight. That’s when an argument broke out among adults, and someone began shooting, injuring several people, police said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took two teens to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood and three adults to other other hospitals, police said.
“All parties are listed as stable,” police said.
Police have not named the shooter as of Tuesday morning, but said a “person of interest” was detained.
