Arrest after 1.2m 'illegal' cigarettes seized from A19 van

A man has been arrested after police stopped a van containing more than 1.2 million suspected illegal cigarettes.

Cleveland Police said the Renault vehicle was pulled over on Friday on the A19 on Teesside and its contents seized.

The haul included 123 boxes, each containing 10,000 cigarettes.

A spokesman for the force said the van driver was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and custom and revenue offences.
