The Dolphins on Saturday announced they have signed Raheem Mostert to a one-year contract extension through the 2025 season, rewarding the running back after a career-best season.

According to a league source, Mostert’s new contract is worth up to $9.1 million and includes $3.71 million in guaranteed money.

In his age-31 season, Mostert rushed for a career-high 1,012 yards and set a Dolphins franchise record with a career-high 18 rushing touchdowns and 21 touchdowns from scrimmage. Mostert was also named to his first Pro Bowl.

Mostert, though, was set to enter the final season of a two-year, $5.6 million deal he signed last offseason with no guaranteed money remaining. On locker room cleanout day in January, Mostert alluded to his contract possibly being addressed this offseason.

The Dolphins originally signed Mostert to a one-year deal in the 2022 offseason, as Mostert joined head coach Mike McDaniel from the San Francisco 49ers. In his first season in Miami, Mostert led the team with 891 rushing yards.

Mostert, who turns 32 in April, becomes the second Dolphins running back to have his contract adjusted this offseason. Miami and Jeff Wilson Jr. also agreed to a reworked contract; Wilson accepted a pay cut from $2.6 million to $1.125 million, a move that dropped his cap hit from $3.68 million to $2.357 million. In exchange for doing that, Wilson was guaranteed $400,000 that wasn’t otherwise guaranteed ($200,000 of his base salary and a $200,000 signing bonus).

Mostert’s $3.6 million cap hit will decrease, giving the Dolphins more cap flexibility. Miami has about $5 million in cap space and will receive $18.5 million for cornerback Xavien Howard’s post-June 1 release.

The Dolphins appear set to return their running back room from last season, led by Mostert and De’Von Achane, who rushed for 800 yards in 11 games as a rookie. Along with Wilson, the Dolphins re-signed Salvon Ahmed and Chris Brooks is entering his second season after making the team as an undrafted rookie.
