  • Anna Wintour's acceptance meant a lot to Anderson: "I can imagine that in the past I was not someone she would ever take a second look at."

After a slew of bare-faced public appearances, Pamela Anderson finally ditched the no-makeup look for her Met Gala debut.

Anderson, 56, arrived on the red carpet Monday evening in an off-shoulder Oscar de la Renta gown with light makeup by Pat McGrath.

In an interview with British Vogue, Anderson said she wanted a makeup look that was "dewy, soft, and ethereal," to showcase her elegance.

To achieve that, makeup artist McGrath told British Vogue she created a look that "acknowledged" Anderson's natural beauty by using products that enhanced the star's glowy skin.

"We wanted to explore the next incarnation of natural — an elevation of natural — and to show how you can wear a full face of make-up but in a very fresh and beautiful way," McGrath said.

Anderson's dreamy beauty look at the Met Gala is a departure from her signature smokey eyeliner and messy bun, which she became known for throughout the '90s and '00s.

But over the past year, Anderson became the face of the no-makeup movement after making numerous public appearances with a bare face.

The former "Baywatch" star previously told Elle that she stopped wearing makeup after her longtime makeup artist and friend, Alexis Vogel, died from breast cancer in 2019.

"She was the best. And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it's just better for me not to wear makeup," Anderson said.

In a November 2023 interview with People, Anderson said she didn't realize how much attention she would get for going makeup-free in public, adding that she isn't too bothered about looking her age.

"I call if Life-ing, not aging," Anderson said. "Chasing youth is futile. All we can do is embrace who we are at the moment we are in, and be okay with where our feet stand right now."

The best part about being in this stage of her life is that she doesn't have to be "cool" anymore, she said: "I can just be me. It's very freeing to be comfortable in your own skin."

Keeping in line with the dress code "The Garden of Time" for her Met Gala look, Anderson also wore a straw-colored headpiece — designed by hat designer Noel Stewart — meant to look like grass, per The New York Times.

She completed her outfit with a necklace made from 227 carats of lab-grown Pandora diamonds, per the Times.

Reflecting on her Met Gala debut, Anderson told the Times that it "means a lot" to her that she was invited.

"I feel like everything has led me to this pinnacle moment where I get to be at the Met, being respected and accepted by Anna Wintour," Anderson said. "I can imagine that in the past I was not someone she would ever take a second look at. I wasn't in fashion, ever. I wasn't cool. And I know those things may seem really superficial to some people, but it means a lot to me."

A representative for Anderson did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent outside regular business hours.
