TSB to close five banks across West Midlands
Five TSB banks are set to close in the West Midlands as part of plans to shut 36 branches across the UK.
Banks in Pype Hayes, Birmingham; Bedworth, Warwickshire; and Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, would close in September, TSB confirmed.
Branches in Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire; and Whitchurch, Shropshire, are to shut in May 2025.
TSB said the decision was made because not enough people were using the branches as more customers turned to online banking.
A TSB spokesman said: "The decision to close a branch is never taken lightly, but our customers are now doing most of their banking digitally and we need to move to a better balance of digital and face-to-face services.
"We remain committed to a national branch network and through innovation and integration with video, telephone, digital, branch and other face-to-face services, TSB customers have more ways to bank with us than ever before."
The bank said 250 jobs would also be cut nationally, including at the 36 affected banks, central operations and its fraud operations department.
According to figures from TSB, 96% of transactions take place outside of branches, with those carried out in-branch falling by 43% over the last four years.
Trade union Unite described the decision as a “grave mistake” and said it was pressing TSB to reconsider its plans.
