Groundbreaking in York for new police headquarters
YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) – On Saturday, a groundbreaking was held in York County for the Northern York County Regional Police Department’s new police headquarters.
Chief David Lash has been with the department for 32 years and is in his 5th year as chief.
“For me this is a dream come true,” said Northern York County Regional Police Department Chief David Lash.
The building they currently operate in is 9,500 square feet. The new building will be 34,000 square feet and will be located at One Regional Way off the Susquehanna Trail.
“We’re really meeting some unmet needs in the community by putting this building up,” said Lash.
The facility will address issues found during a 2021 sit assessment and feasibility study.
“We have five female police officers, we don’t have a female locker room currently, equipment storage is a problem, dedicated space for the processing of evidence, improve evidence intake in storage,” said Lash.
Chief Lash says most importantly secure parking for officers and staff.
“The building will have state of the art training facility we’ll have a physical fitness gym, a classroom, hands on and virtual reality training room,” said Lash.
The new building also gives the department room for growth.
“This building will be able to house over 100 police officers when it’s completed, were at 68 now,” said Lash.
Chief Lash says it will cost around $15 million which is being paid for through donations, sponsorships, and grants.
They hope is to have the building open by April 2025.
