A luxurious new steakhouse is opening in Miami in the former space of a restaurant and cabaret.

Lafayette Steakhouse — named after Revolutionary War hero Marquis de Lafayette — is opening in the former space of El Tucan in Brickell.

Both spaces are owned by the group Mr. Hospitality Miami, which also owns the neighboring sushi-forward Japanese restaurant Marion and the opulent Japanese restaurant Queen in the former Paris Theatre space on Washington Avenue in Miami Beach.

Queen, which opened in January 2023, is known for its glamour and striking design, and this new steakhouse is no different. Designed by Carlos Rodriguez of Escala Forma Studio and lighting designer Haus of Lawrence, Lafayette is a dark, rich world of mahogany and oak, leather upholstery, curving banquettes and eye-catching chandeliers. There’s even a grand piano on the main floor.

Rodriguez calls the design a “fusion of timeless tradition and modern innovation.”

“Our design ethos intertwines the timeless allure of European charm with a contemporary fingerprint,” he said in a statement.

The kitchen will be led by French chef Kylian Goussot and specialize in dry-aged USDA prime cuts as well as seafood entrees and other dishes prepared over a wood charcoal Josper oven (which combines the functions of a charcoal grill and a barbecue and cooks meat or fish at a high temperature).

Goussot and head sommelier Gabrielle Neuberg will oversee the cocktail and wine menu, while pastry chef Nelson Mendonca, who has worked with world-famous chef Alain Ducasse, will supervise the dessert creations.

Mathieu Massa, owner and founder of Mr. Hospitality Miami, said the new restaurant has “an aura of intrigue and distinction.”

“We’ve created an atmosphere where every detail exudes the opulence of a bygone era,” he said in a statement.

You can decide if he’s right starting May 11.
