Man tried to kiss police officer while in custody
A 50-year-old man who tried to kiss a police officer while in custody after assaulting another officer, has been ordered to pay £300 compensation to both victims.
On 5 January officers were dispatched to Jameel Malik’s home in Hankey Street, Millfield, Peterborough, after receiving a call.
When officers arrived at the address to investigate, Malik tried to punch one of them before spitting in their face. He was then arrested.
He was taken into custody where he made an advance towards a female detention officer and tried to kiss her on her lips.
'Unacceptable'
Malik was charged with assaulting an emergency worker.
He appeared at Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday, where he was sentenced to a six-month drug rehabilitation requirement and a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement after previously admitting to the offences.
PC Aaron Young, who investigated the offences, said: “When coming to work officers are aware of the nature of policing and that they may face the unknown.
“However, what Malik put these officers through was completely unacceptable and I am glad that the courts have recognised that.”
