Possession of weapons offences increase by 50%
Offences for possession of weapons in the area covered by Humberside Police rose by 50% in 2023 according to the latest figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS).
Crime recorded by the force increased by 8% overall, with rises in reported robberies, sexual offences and stalking and harassment.
Whilst there were fewer vehicle offences and bicycle thefts, shoplifting in the region was up by 17%.
Nationally, overall crime rates dropped by 1%, but theft from shops has risen to the highest level in 20 years.
The ONS figures for the Humberside police force area for the year ending in December 2023, compared with the previous 12 months.
Robbery - up 26%
sexual offences - up 10%
stalking and harassment - up 32%
shoplifting - up 17%
Possession of weapons - up 50%
violence against a person - up 15%
vehicle offences - down 12%
bicycle theft - down 19%
