Peterborough cattery and pet crematorium plan is approved
Plans for a new cattery and pet crematorium sitting side by side have been approved by councillors.
The facilities would be built behind Magnolia House in Old Oundle Road in Thornhaugh, near Peterborough.
Planning officers said the proposals would help meet local demand.
Planning agent John Dickie told a committee meeting on Tuesday that having a place for pets to stay and a crematorium next to each other "isn't as unusual as you might imagine".
He said: "The two businesses, in fact, are perfectly suited to operate side-by-side as in most instances they'll be helping the same customers, just in different circumstances.
"Most people who have cats or dogs trust kennels to look after their pets.
"Who better to offer a first class and compassionate service when the sad time comes?" The application was brought in front of Peterborough City Council's planning committee - rather than being looked at internally by council officers - because it involved building in open countryside, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
The proposal, by applicant L. Clipsham and S. Fox, won unanimous support from the committee.
