A man's body has been recovered from Kirkwall harbour in Orkney.

Police Scotland said the discovery had been made at about 05:40 and emergency services sent to the scene.

Kirkwall RNLI lifeboat crew was also called to assist officers and HM Coastguard teams at the pier.

Orkney Ferries linkspan - a bridge that connects ships to the shore - was closed for a time as police investigated the scene, leading to the cancellation of the ferry to Sanday and Eday.

The linkspan has now reopened and the company said ferry services were operating as normal.
