Roadworks on traffic-hit road near completion

Queues on the A34
Gas company SGN said it had completed its works and hoped to open the lane "by midnight" [BBC]

Emergency gas works that have been causing long traffic delays on a major Oxfordshire road for the past four days are close to completion.

A lane of the A34 southbound carriageway near Botley was shut on Monday so engineers could fix a leak in a recently fitted pipe.

Gas company SGN, which is carrying out the work, said it hoped "to have the lane reopened by midnight".

SGN spokesperson Bradley Barlow said: “We’ve completed repairs to our gas network in the A34 and have started work to resurface the road.

"This reinstatement needs times to cure and we expect to reopen the lane closure by midnight tonight, subject to weather conditions.”
