Sheffield: Park cafe building restoration appeal passes £10k mark
More than £10,000 has been raised as part of a push to restore a landmark Sheffield park café.
Rose Garden Café in Graves Park opened in 1927. It was shut due to structural concerns in July 2022.
The Friends of Graves Park launched an online appeal which aims to raise £25,000 towards the cost of restoring the building.
The local authority previously said a full refurbishment could cost up to £1.7m.
The Friends of Graves Park said so far 329 supporters had made contributions to their appeal totalling £10,088.
The group said reaching the target of £25,000 towards the restoration would "show potential funding providers the local commitment to our cause".
When Sheffield City Council estimated the cost of full refurbishment at £1.7m, they also said structural stabilisation of the existing building with "light touch refurbishment to café interiors only" would cost around £911,000.
A public consultation over the future of the café building - which reopened as a takeaway in December 2022 - closed on 19 April.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service said a joint statement was then issued by the Friends of Rose Park and the Save the Rose Garden Café campaign.
It said: "A huge thank you to everybody that participated in the public consultation.
"We received 1,557 responses packed with great ideas; these will be invaluable in our funding bids."
The statement said results of the consultation would be "shared soon" and would "inform the restoration and refurbishment".
