South West Water dye tests 'harmless to wildlife'

Dye will be poured into the water off Devon on Wednesday as part of testing by South West Water (SWW).

The dye is being used as part of investigation work at Maer Rocks in Exmouth to confirm the location of pipework.

SWW said the substance was harmless and would not affect any wildlife in the area.

It said residents may notice some "yellow/green discoloration" in the area between 08:00 and 13:00 BST.

A drop-in event at Exmouth's Ocean building will also take place on Wednesday afternoon for residents who want to know more about the test, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

SWW will also share information about its investments in Exmouth, including a pledge to spend £38m to reduce sewage spills.

In December, sewage was released into the estuary because of a burst pipe.

Wednesday's dye tests are not connected to the sewage spills project.
