1 dead, 3 injured in head-on crash between two SUVs shut down Krome Avenue in Redland

One person died and three were hospitalized after a head-on collision between two SUVs — shutting down Krome Avenue in Miami-Dade County during Thursday morning’s rush hour, according to authorities.

Around 6:05 a.m., a gray Nissan SUV was heading south on Krome Avenue when it veered into the northbound lanes and crashed head-on into a white Toyota SUV at Southwest 296th Street in the Redland, said Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alex Camacho.

The driver of the Nissan died at the scene and three people who were in the Toyota were taken to Jackson South Medical Center in stable condition, Camacho said. Initially, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said four people had been hospitalized.

The names of the people killed or injured have not been released.

Krome Avenue was reopened after being shut down in both directions for hours.

Footage from the TV station showed a gray SUV and a white SUV with front-end damage. The white SUV also had rear damage.
