Two arrested after serious assault in Dorking

Two people have been arrested after a man was seriously assaulted in Surrey.

Surrey Police were called to Dorking High Street, between the junctions of Dene Street and The Chine, at about 14:30 BST on Wednesday after receiving reports that a man had been assaulted.

The victim suffered serious injuries to his head and was taken to hospital. The police force said the injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and a 48-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Both remain in custody.

Police have appealed for anyone in the High Street area of Dorking on Wednesday afternoon, with relevant information, to come forward.

Det Sgt Leigh Wall said: "I understand that this may cause concern within the local community and I would like to reassure them that we do not currently believe there to be any threat to the wider public."

Surrey Police said a "number of officers" were in the area as the force carried out enquiries.
