Two men have been arrested in connection with a suspected corrosive substance attack on a man in York.

Anthony Strickland, 29, and Robinson Peter Fitch Binks, 26, had been wanted by police after the man, in his 30s, suffered serious burns to his back on 19 April.

Both were arrested in the city on Tuesday on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm, police said.

They remained in custody, a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson added.

A third man, who was in his 60s and was also in the vehicle, had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, they said.

Meanwhile, two women, aged 41 and 43, and a 54-year-old man had also been arrested in connection with the attack which happened in Fossway on Friday.

They had since been bailed, officers said.

Police previously said the man who was attacked had undergone emergency treatment in hospital and remained in a serious but stable condition.
