Elk Grove elementary school teacher’s aide suspected of injuring student, 9, authorities say

A longtime Elk Grove Unified School District teacher’s aide has been placed on administrative leave after he was accused of injuring a 9-year-old child on Tuesday, authorities said.

The aide faces a child endangerment misdemeanor charge after a student at Arlene Hein Elementary School suffered an injury, said Sgt. Amar Gandhi, a spokesman for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The type of injury the student suffered was not disclosed by authorities or the district. The child’s parent told the Sacramento Observer that the aide had grabbed her son by the neck after the boy got into an argument with another student on the playground.

James Tran, a spokesman for the Elk Grove Unified School District, said in a statement district officials are investigating the alleged misconduct.

“The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority,” Tran wrote.

The aide, who has not been charged, has worked for the district since December 2013, Trans said.
