Bid to expand cemetery into former allotment site
Plans have been submitted for a cemetery to expand into a former allotment.
An application due to go before East Staffordshire Borough councillors has said the development is essential for Stapenhill Cemetery in Burton upon Trent to keep up with demand.
It currently accepts around 220 burials a year and has seen over 62,000 in the last 150 years.
Included in the plans is a car park for 20 cars, two of which would be disabled spaces.
East Staffordshire Borough Council, which is applying to its own planning committee for the expansion, noted it is one of only two public burial grounds in the town.
It also said: "Since the pandemic there has been a demand on plots and the site is spatially limited for further expansion."
Councillors will make a decision on the application when they meet on Tuesday.
