'Clever' Guernsey cows escape but hand themselves in
A herd of escaped Guernsey cows have handed themselves in to an animal charity, staff say.
The GSPCA said the animals escaped their field through damaged fencing on Sunday and ended up visiting the team.
Steve Byrne, GSPCA manager, said recent weather had caused fences to fall down and sometimes field gates were left open.
He said the "very clever animals" helped provide "a very entertaining day" for team.
Large animals 'concerning'
He said: “We are very blessed to have very clever animals here in Guernsey.
“It was a very entertaining day for the GSPCA team. But we like a challenge and it wasn’t long before we got hold of the farmer who owned them and off they went.”
Mr Byrne said lost farm animals, especially large ones, were "always hugely concerning".
"Not only can they cause damage through no fault of their own, they can pose a real risk to drivers, pedestrians and, of course, to themselves," he said.
In 2015, a couple of island-bred cows invaded a woman's home by walking through an unlocked door.
