Father kills 6-year-old son and ends his own life, Hialeah police say. What to know
A father killed his 6-year-old son and ended his own life inside a Hialeah apartment before the child’s mother discovered their bodies Thursday afternoon, police said.
The mother, who was also the man’s wife, found them at Lake House Apartments, 7225 W. 11th Ct., a couple of blocks from McDonald Water Park, before police were called at around 5:50 p.m.
“We are currently treating this case as a murder-suicide,” Hialeah police Lt. Eddie Rodriguez said in a statement Friday afternoon. “Their identities have not been released at this time as detectives are still conducting interviews.”
Hialeah police did not disclose what prompted the killings or the way father and son died, but a police radio recording indicates they were shot.
“Whenever a child loses their life, especially at the hands of an adult, it’s heartbreaking for anyone involved,” Rodriguez said.
