Listed lido opens for summer season

Cheltenham's Grade II listed lido has opened for the summer season.

Sandford Parks Lido let swimmers in on Saturday just in time for the bank holiday weekend.

Carrying on a tradition from when the lido first opened in 1935, entry fee for the first day is set at 2p.

The lido is based in four acres of gardens in the centre of the Gloucestershire spa town.

It has two main pools and a paddling pool and was taken over by non-profit charitable trust, Sandford Park Limited, in 1996 when it was under threat.

In 2023, the lido announced plans to install solar panels after facing financial difficulties because of rising energy bills.
