Man reunited with one-eyed dog stolen in car theft

A man has been reunited with his beloved one-eyed dog after it went missing when the car it was in was stolen.

Pete had been left distraught after his Boston terrier Bailey and his silver BMW were taken from outside a shop in Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire, at about 16:00 BST on Tuesday.

He dropped his keys after leaving Bailey briefly on the passenger seat while he went back into Henley Boutique on High Street to retrieve his phone

They were picked up by a female pedestrian who handed them over to the thief when he told her they were his.

Following the theft, search organiser Frankie Johns said nine-year-old Bailey was Pete's “best mate and child”, adding that he was not bothered about the car.

He has since confirmed in a post on Facebook that Bailey had been found “on her own in Sheldon” and was now back with her owner. The car remains missing, he said.

Before Bailey was found, Mr Johns said she was a village dog who everybody loved and patted.

"Everybody knows her, she’s so beautiful, and you can really recognise her because she’s only got one eye," he told BBC CWR.

Warwickshire Police said it received a report on Tuesday of a BMW stolen from Henley-in-Arden with a dog inside, highlighting the animal was only left for a few minutes.

The force urged witnesses or those with dashcam or doorbell footage to get in touch.
