The prospects for troubled banking-as-a-service startup Synapse have gone from bad to worse this week after a United States Trustee filed an emergency motion on Wednesday. The trustee is asking to convert the company’s debt reorganization Chapter 11 bankruptcy into a liquidation Chapter 7, according to court documents.

Sony Music warns tech companies over 'unauthorized' use of its content to train AI
The letter, which was obtained by TechCrunch, says Sony Music has “reason to believe” that the recipients of the letter “may already have made unauthorized uses” of its content. The company’s portfolio of artists includes numerous notable artists like Harry Styles, Beyoncé, Adele and Celine Dion. “We support artists and songwriters taking the lead in embracing new technologies in support of their art,” Sony Music said in a statement.

Bolt founder Ryan Breslow has proposed a settlement with investor Activant Capital this week, which could put an end to a lawsuit brought by Activant. The investor accused Breslow of adding $30 million to Bolt’s balance sheet in the form of personal debt and removing board members when they urged Breslow to repay it. Activant sued Breslow in July 2023, in a Delaware court, on behalf of Steve Sarracino, a former Bolt board member, alleging that Breslow removed him and two other board members when they declined to help Breslow repay the $30 million loan.
